Organisers of Newcastle-based music festival This Is Tomorrow have said that they will not be going ahead with the event this year, and have cited the \u201coversaturated market\u201d and an \u201congoing economic crisis\u201d as the reasons why.<\/p>\n
The three-day event was due to run from June 3-5 but will now take place in May next year.<\/p>\n
The organisers said in a statement: \u201cWe are sorry to tell you that we have taken a business decision to not run This Is Tomorrow festival this year. It\u2019s disappointing we know, but we can promise you a seriously strong line-up of acts when we come back with a bigger and better event on May 26-28 in 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate your support in buying early bird tickets for this year but, with an oversaturated market and an ongoing economic crisis, 2022 is not the time for the festival to expand further and build on last year\u2019s success.\u201d<\/p>\n
The BBC<\/a> reported that last year\u2019s festival, which was held at Exhibition Park in the English city, drew a number of noise complaints. Newcastle City Council then introduced new restrictions for the park.<\/p>\n Organisers said that the licence change does present a challenge but is not the sole reason for the postponement of the festival.<\/p>\n \u201cThe recent discussions and restrictions placed on the licence for Exhibition Park present a challenge,\u201d said the statement. \u201cBut this is not the reason we are choosing to have a year off, and we are looking forward to This Is Tomorrow returning to its traditional place in the calendar during the May bank holiday weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n The statement added: \u201cWe have begun the process of refunding all of you who took advantage of the early bird offer \u2013 and we hope to be in a position very soon when we can announce our exciting plans for 2023.\u201d<\/p>\n Image: Vonecia Carswell<\/a> on Unsplash<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
