Birmingham 2022 organisers still have 200,000 tickets to sell if they are to meet their target of welcoming 1.5m visitors to this summer\u2019s Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
The multi-sport event, which begins on July 29, is on course to be the best attended Commonwealth Games in history. The 1.2m tickets sold already surpasses figures of around 1m achieved at both Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018.<\/p>\n
Speaking to InsideTheGames<\/a>, Birmingham 2022 source said there remains \u201cgood availability\u201d for sports such as rugby sevens, women\u2019s Twenty20 cricket, beach volleyball and boxing. Athletics and gymnastics, swimming and 3\u00d73 basketball are among the biggest draws.<\/p>\n \u201cBirmingham 2022 will be a fantastic sporting event,\u201d a Commonwealth Games Federation spokesperson told insidethegames.<\/p>\n \u201cOver 1.2 million tickets have already been sold for the Commonwealth Games, and we expect that number to increase in the coming days. We have 4,500 athletes competing across 19 sports and there is no doubt that they will receive huge support at every venue.\u201d<\/p>\n Birmingham 2022 chief executive Ian Reid last year said that almost two million applications<\/a> had been received for the ticket ballot, with around 850,000 of those from the local West Midlands region.<\/p>\n
