Championship rugby league club York City Knights is offering free tickets for key workers in the NHS, police, fire service and the armed forces, as well as teachers.<\/p>\n
The Knights\u2019 upcoming match against Workington Town at LNER Community Stadium (pictured) this weekend has been dubbed \u2018Heroes Day\u2019.<\/p>\n
Not only will the key workers be offered free tickets to attend the game, but also their partners and children.<\/p>\n
Matty Lewis, account executive at York City Knights, told the York Press<\/a>: \u201cAt the Knights we pride ourselves with having great community values, and whilst we recognise the importance of many workers, we want to thank those whose roles not only continued throughout lockdown, but also became a lot more demanding.\u201d<\/p>\n LNER Community Stadium is set to host matches for the upcoming Rugby League World Cup, including the two women\u2019s semi-final games.<\/p>\n Lewis added: \u201cThere are exciting developments ahead at the Knights for men and women, and for those who enjoy rugby league \u2013 or if you\u2019ve never experienced a match before \u2013 there\u2019s never been a better time to get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n Tickets for Sunday\u2019s clash are still available to purchase with under 16s allowed to enter for free. The club is hoping that a mixture of free tickets and the upcoming World Cup will provide a boost to the sport of rugby league.<\/p>\n Lewis said: \u201cWe recognise the importance of the future of the sport, and that\u2019s why we want to continue to invite anyone under the age of 16 for free.
