The United States Formula 1 Grand Prix welcomed a record crowd of 440,000 to the Circuit of the Americas (pictured) over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The total means that the US GP overtakes Australia as this season\u2019s best-attended race, where 419,000 spectators<\/a> descended on Melbourne back in April.<\/p>\n Fans witnessed Dutch driver Max Verstappen take his 13th win of the season, with his team Red Bull also securing the Constructor\u2019s World Championship. Verstappen had already been crowned 2022 World Champion at the Japanese Grand Prix.<\/p>\n Mercedes\u2019 Sir Lewis Hamilton finished second and Ferrari\u2019s Charles Leclerc finished in third place in Austin.<\/p>\n Formula 1 has witnessed a surge in popularity over recent years, in part thanks to the Netflix documentary \u2018Drive to Survive\u2019.<\/p>\n Multiple races have seen record-breaking ticket sales, with this year\u2019s British Grand Prix selling out in record time<\/a>.<\/p>\n Motorsports Tickets, an event booking platform dedicated to motorsports, also revealed earlier this year<\/a> that it had witnessed a 79% uplift in average site visitors.<\/p>\n Earlier this month, the Singapore GP also witnessed record crowds as it returned to the calendar for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic.
