{"id":3252,"date":"2022-12-19T06:46:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T14:46:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/19\/woman-dies-of-injuries-following-brixton-o2-academy-crush\/"},"modified":"2022-12-19T06:46:01","modified_gmt":"2022-12-19T14:46:01","slug":"woman-dies-of-injuries-following-brixton-o2-academy-crush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/19\/woman-dies-of-injuries-following-brixton-o2-academy-crush\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman dies of injuries following Brixton O2 Academy crush"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"primary\">\n<p>A woman who suffered severe injuries in a crush at last week\u2019s Asake gig at London\u2019s Brixton O2 Academy has died.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old nursing graduate from east London, died in hospital on Saturday morning, according to the authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The Afro-pop concert had to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2022\/12\/16\/suspected-crowd-crush-at-brixton-o2-academy-leaves-four-in-critical-condition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abandoned part-way through<\/a> after a \u201clarge number of people\u201d tried to force their way inside on Thursday, the Met Police said.<\/p>\n<p>Two other women aged 21 and 23 remain in a critical condition, police added. Initial reports said that four concert-goers were in a critical condition, with eight people having been rushed to hospital after the crush.<\/p>\n<p>Academy Music Group, which owns and runs the venue, said in a statement: \u201cAll at O2 Academy Brixton and Academy Music Group are deeply saddened by the news of the tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe send our heartfelt condolences to Rebecca\u2019s family and friends, and our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating news at this extremely difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking over the weekend, Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, policing commander for Lambeth and Southwark, said: that an urgent investigation is currently under way led by detectives from its Specialist Crime Command and cordons remained in place as officers continued to work at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis is still a fast moving and evolving picture and we are working to establish the events that led up to the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are also aware of a vast amount of footage on social media and of course this will be examined as part of the investigation along with footage from officers\u2019 body worn video cameras.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working incredibly closely with our partners and community members and would like to thank them for their support so far in the investigation. We would also like to thank people for coming forward with information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asake said he was \u201coverwhelmed with grief\u201d and \u201cdevastated\u201d by her death.
