{"id":3341,"date":"2023-01-03T05:54:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-03T13:54:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/03\/strong-year-predicted-for-live-events-industry-in-2023\/"},"modified":"2023-01-03T05:54:37","modified_gmt":"2023-01-03T13:54:37","slug":"strong-year-predicted-for-live-events-industry-in-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/03\/strong-year-predicted-for-live-events-industry-in-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong year predicted for live events industry in 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"primary\">\n<p class=\"standfirst\">The live events industry in the UK is set to have a strong year in 2023, with rising demand for festivals, gigs, West End theatre and VIP event tickets.<\/p>\n<p>According to an article from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2023\/jan\/02\/from-must-see-gigs-to-vip-tickets-how-live-events-are-on-course-to-defy-uk-cost-of-living-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Guardian<\/a>, demand for tickets is increasing despite a cost-of-living crisis across the UK, which will continue the industry\u2019s recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While many are faced with high energy bills and rising food costs, money is still being saved for events and summer festivals.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, it is going to be pricy with numerous events having to also up their prices due to increased running costs. For example, UK flagship festival Glastonbury <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2022\/10\/18\/major-price-increase-for-glastonbury-2023-tickets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">raised its ticket price<\/a> in October by 26% to \u00a3340 ($408\/\u20ac386) to cover cost rises.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In June last year, theatre industry publication the Stage revealed that the price of West End theatre shows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2022\/06\/28\/west-end-top-theatre-ticket-prices-up-on-pre-pandemic-levels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">increased by more than 21%<\/a> since pre-pandemic levels in 2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tickets for theme parks in the UK are also expected to rise. Merlin Entertainments, which is the world\u2019s second-largest theme park operator after Disney, has risen its prices for a number of attractions in the UK.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The operator owns Thorpe Park, Legoland, Madame Tussauds and Sea Life, and has increased on-the-day ticket prices at Alton Towers from \u00a356 in 2019 to \u00a368 in 2023.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Demand for live entertainment was recently demonstrated by the return of comedian Peter Kay to touring, which inspired an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2022\/11\/11\/peter-kay-tour-sees-extraordinary-demand-for-tickets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">influx of ticket purchases<\/a>.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The comedian also started his residency at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2022\/12\/20\/peter-kay-begins-monthly-residency-at-the-o2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">O2 in London in December,<\/a> with the monthly slot sold out until March 2025.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Entertainment giant AEG, which owns and operates the O2, also produces events in the UK such as British Summer Time (BST) in Hyde Park. The company has witnessed tickets for the festival sell out faster than pre-pandemic.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Paul Samuels, executive vice-president for global partnerships, AEG Europe, told the Guardian: \u201cEven with the cost of living crisis people are still buying. It could change, we have to be cautious because of course there is a risk, but we have seen no evidence at the moment. During the 2008 financial crisis there was never a drop in ticket sales \u2013 or food and beverage \u2013 at the O2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople felt a holiday abroad was too much of a big-ticket cost but they still wanted a night out, to see friends, and use that as a release. We are predicting that will be the same case with the cost of living crisis, and not a total wallet crunch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samuels also noted that another positive change in ticket buying behaviour was in relation to premium experiences.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne thing that has amazed us the most, it was a bit unexpected really, has been the premium seating boom,\u201d added Samuels. \u201cNot just business hospitality but consumers that just want an extra experience.
