{"id":3583,"date":"2023-01-31T02:00:32","date_gmt":"2023-01-31T10:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/31\/chinese-cinema-strives-for-post-covid-recovery\/"},"modified":"2023-01-31T02:00:32","modified_gmt":"2023-01-31T10:00:32","slug":"chinese-cinema-strives-for-post-covid-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.goticketly.com\/index.php\/2023\/01\/31\/chinese-cinema-strives-for-post-covid-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese cinema strives for post-COVID recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"primary\">\n<p class=\"standfirst\">Chinese cinema is aiming for a post-COVID recovery with its latest spate of films and the holiday period. <\/p>\n<p>Statistics from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/chinese-new-year-holiday-mirrors-strong-economic-vitality-of-china-301733430.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">China Film Administration<\/a> on January 28 showed that China\u2019s movie box office revenue had reached nearly 6.76 billion yuan (\u00a3812m\/\u20ac912m\/$1bn) during the Spring Festival holiday.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is the second-highest gross figures for this holiday so far.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/115485a1-99b7-4b3b-85dc-759179833981\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> has also reported that it has been a tough journey for Chinese cinema over the last couple of years, with box office receipts falling more than a third between 2021 and 2022, according to ticketing platform Maoyan.<\/p>\n<p>The decline saw the US overtake China in terms of its box office sales for the first time since surpassing the country in 2020. Despite this, China\u2019s box office showing for early 2023 is currently outpacing North America\u2019s $485m, according to Maoyan and Amazon\u2019s Box Office Mojo.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Alibaba\u2019s ticketing platform Taopiaoniao, Chinese cinema is undergoing somewhat of a shift, favouring domestic titles over foreign films.
