Plus, the way the country is being run is depressing and everything going on outside of the country is depressing too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On ticket sales, Barber added: \u201cGenerally, you\u2019ll shift a load at the start, then you\u2019ll stall, then sell more in the last week and sometimes you\u2019ll double your attendance in the last 24 hours. That means it\u2019s really hard to plan and budget. That causes its own stresses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments come after the Music Venue Trust (MVT)\u2019s recently released annual report, which revealed there was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketingbusiness.com\/2023\/01\/31\/music-venue-trust-report-finds-grassroots-events-still-below-pre-pandemic-levels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">16.7% decrease in events compared to pre-pandemic levels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a survey of almost 1,0000 grassroots venues, MVT\u2019s report found that while the 565,000 individual performances and 177,000 events brought in \u00a3500m (\u20ac560m\/$602m) in 2022, venues reported an average profit margin of just 0.2%. This resulted in the subsidising of live music performances by roughly \u00a379m last year.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Maiden, owner and promoter at The Fiddler\u2019s Elbow in Camden, also told NME: \u201cThere\u2019s been a drop in ticket sales. We\u2019re not getting the crowds in that we used to get.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cOne of our main problems isn\u2019t just people not coming, but it\u2019s also promoters pulling gigs at the last minute. They\u2019re not getting the ticket sales so they\u2019re getting scared and pulling the gig. They\u2019re not waiting until the day when people buy tickets on the door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey panic that they\u2019re not getting many pre-sale tickets, but people aren\u2019t buying tickets because they\u2019re not sure whether to put food on the table or go to the gigs that they used to.
