Sheeran is also set to play the MCG on Thursday and has sold more than 100,000 tickets for this performance.<\/p>\n<p>Following Sheeran\u2019s two nights at the MCG, the Australia and New Zealand leg of \u2018The Mathematics Tour\u2019 will head to the Adelaide Oval, and finish at Perth\u2019s Optus Stadium on March 12.<\/p>\n<p>When the singer last toured Australia with Frontier Touring in 2018, over one million tickets were sold, beating out the previous record by band Dire Straits. Sheeran\u2019s \u2018Divide\u2019 tour that year also set a new record of 18 stadium dates across Australia and New Zealand, beating the previous record of 14 set by rock legends AC\/DC.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theage.com.au\/culture\/music\/ed-sheeran-performs-surprise-hospital-gig-breaks-australian-concert-record-20230228-p5co8f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Age<\/em><\/a>, Mushroom Group chief executive Matt Gudinski, whose father founded the Frontier Touring parent company, said: \u201cIt\u2019s been a long time in the planning. My dad and I always dreamed of Ed playing at the MCG, and Ed has always wanted to play there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFriday night will be the biggest ticketed concert in Australian history with over 107,000 people at the MCG. It\u2019s spectacular, to have that happening at the home of music in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have over 100,000 people attending Ed\u2019s concerts, both Thursday and Friday, is just amazing.
