Ticketmaster is facing a class action lawsuit over the cost of ticket prices to see Canadian rapper Drake, according to reports. <\/p>\n
The Toronto Star<\/a>\u00a0reported that Montreal-based law firm LPC Avocat has filed a class action lawsuit against Ticketmaster over allegedly price gauging tickets for Drake\u2019s upcoming \u2018It\u2019s All a Blur\u2019 tour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The newspaper obtained a complaint submitted by a Montreal resident who purchased two \u2018Official Platinum\u2019 seats for Drake\u2019s concert at the Bell Centre on July 14, for C$789.54 (\u00a3470\/\u20ac30\/$570) each.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The following day saw a new show added for July 15 with the same seats costing roughly C$350 less.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n LPC Avocat alleged that Ticketmaster knew about the extra date in advance and withheld the information, selling the \u2018Official Platinum\u2019 seats \u201cat an artificially inflated premium price in bad faith\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The application for the class action said: \u201cTicketmaster unilaterally decides which tickets it advertises and sells as \u2018Official Platinum\u2019 based on a given event. The result is that most, if not all, of the tickets advertised and sold as \u2018Official Platinum\u2019 are neither \u2018premium tickets<\/i>\u2019 nor \u2018some of the best seats in the house<\/i>\u2019 and are, in fact, just regular tickets sold by Ticketmaster at an artificially inflated premium in bad faith.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the report, plaintiffs are seeking \u201ccompensatory damages in the aggregate amount of the difference between the prices charged for \u2018Official Platinum\u2019 tickets and what their regular price ought to have been\u201d. Plaintiffs are also seeking C$300 per customer in punitive damages.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The Cure frontman Robert Smith recently branded \u2018Platinum\u2019 tickets as a \u2018greedy scam\u2019.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n TheTicketingBusiness has reached out to Ticketmaster for comment.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p><\/div>\n
