Download festival makes layout changes to improve

British rock festival Download has revealed major site improvements for its 2022 event in June, improving accessibility for all fans.

The festival is set to take place at full capacity for the first time since 2019 from June 10-12 at Donington Park.

The Village area has been moved closer to The Arena, the main section of the festival, and will now also be on hard-standing ground following bad experiences due to poor weather.

The move also means The Village will be located closer to the Disabled Access campsite, meaning fans can move more freely between their camp and The Village on solid ground, improving the accessibility for disabled fans. Organisers have also increased the number of caravan spaces in the Access Campsite by 42%.

Other improvements include a new Circular Camping option, promoting sustainability, which offers clean, upcycled tents and camping equipment. It also means that festival-goers from the furthest campsites will be able to reach their tents from The Arena in 25 minutes, down from an hour in previous years.

Continuing the theme of sustainability, the event has also made improvements by partnering with Trees For Cities to help cut CO2 emissions in terms of audience travel.

Aside from new locations for campsites, the new Castle Donington Bypass has allowed for an additional East Car Park. Download will donate £1 ($1/€1) from each car parking pass towards tree-planting projects in Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

Acts set to perform at Download this year include rock icons Kiss and Iron Maiden, as well as international acts such as Biffy Clyro, A Day To Remember, Mastodon and Funeral For A Friend.
