Motorsport and the metaverse 

Animoca Brands, a company that specialises in promoting digital ownership for games and the metaverse, has announced it will be integrating the Hockenheimring in various products in the REVV Motorsport ecosystem. It will produce and sell NFTs (non-fungible tokens) representing partial ownership of the race track within the REVV ecosystem.

As a result, fans will be able to race virtually at the Hockenheimring and acquire a virtual piece of the race track in the form of an NFT.

Highland games go digital 

In response to changing consumer buying behaviour, advanced ticket sales for the Aboyne Highland Games have been brought in to improve efficiency at the entry gates. Digital passes will be made available to purchase online, with buyers receiving a QR code that can be scanned on entry to the games field.

The games have been held for 155 years and will welcome some 10,000 visitors, who will enjoy a programme of 95 traditional Scottish events, including Highland Dancing, solo piping and fiddle competitions.

NFT for humanitarian aid 

Premier League club Leeds United has released a limited series of NFTs to raise funds for the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. The NFTs feature the ‘no war’ shirts worn by the starting line-up before playing Manchester City last weekend. Each NFT has been digitally signed by the player.

Each NFT features a card style element with the front and back of the player’s shirt, with the digital signature. Only one of each NFT has been made available and owners will receive a set of physical rewards alongside the digital collectible, including: two hospitality tickets for Leeds vs Brighton and Hove Albion on May 15, a pitch-side tour with Leeds legends and attendance to an open training session.

The theatre meets streaming

Digital Theatre provides a Netflix-style on-demand theatre viewing service, as well as educational resources, through its Digital Theatre+ platform.

The service will host content that is live and as-live, which means the performance has been pre-recorded but is broadcast as if it were a live event at a specific time.

The first show to be revealed for the platform is the Original Theatre’s The Hound of the Baskervilles. A pre-recorded version of the production will be streamed on the platform on May 7, and will be live-hosted by comedian Pippa Evans.
