Japan eases some restrictions on large-scale events

The Government of Japan has eased the 10,000-spectator attendance limit for large-scale events.

The regulations were in place in 27 of Japan’s 47 prefectures to limit the spread of COVID-19 within the country, and professional sports games and concerts will now be able to accept more than 10,000 spectators in Tokyo and other parts of Japan.

Events across the country can now admit either 50% capacity or 5,000 people, while large-scale events can now welcome more than 10,000 spectators in Tokyo. The 50% capacity limit is for events that would normally have spectators shouting and cheering.

According to Kyodo News, the Government will decide on a case-by-case basis whether or not an event is likely to involve shouting and cheering from the crowd.

On November 3, Japan registered 265 positive coronavirus cases across the country, and has recorded 1.72 million cases altogether.

In May this year, Japan’s top concert promoters came together to form an alliance that will aid the return of live events in the country.

The International Promoters Alliance Japan (IPAJ) will feature 10 members of the All Japan Concert and Live Entertainment Promoters Conference. The members of IPAJ include Avex Entertainment, Creativeman Production Co, Hanshin Contents Link Co (Billboard Japan), Hayshi International Promotions, Kyodo Tokyo, Live Nation Japan, M&I Company, Promax, Smash Co and Udo Artists.
