The Kite Runner on Broadway to offer mask-only night

The Kite Runner on Broadway is running a special masks-only performance on Friday nights, starting with its August 19 show.

It will be the first production on Broadway to embrace this kind of hybrid policy surrounding mask-wearing, while other theatres across New York have adopted an optional approach.

Patrons will have the option of wearing masks for performances of The Kite Runner on other days of the week.

Producer Victoria Lang said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter: “We have received feedback from some theatregoers who remain cautious about being in an audience with non-masked patrons, as well as others who are still immunocompromised.

“We want to give everyone the opportunity to see The Kite Runner and are offering this option to accommodate them.”

The mask-wearing Friday nights will remain in place through The Kite Runner’s limited run at Hayes Theater, which ends on October 30.

Announced by trade association The Broadway League last month, optional mask-wearing will remain in effect at Broadway venues, though each production is able to set its own COVID-19 policies.

Before then, The Broadway League had put an industry-wide mandate in place on mask-wearing, which had been in effect since July 2021.
