FIFA has revealed that with less than 100 days to go until the World Cup in Qatar, over half a million tickets were sold in the latest sales period and a total of 2.45 million have now been allocated altogether.
The latest sales period ran between July 5 and August 16 and allowed fans to purchase tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. A total of 520,532 tickets were sold with the most popular group stage matches being Cameroon vs Brazil, Brazil vs Serbia, Portugal vs Uruguay, Costa Rica vs Germany and Australia vs Denmark.
Fans living in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the US, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, England, Argentina, Brazil, Wales and Australia snapped up the most tickets during the latest sales period.
In terms of overall sales, leading the way are Qatar, England, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the UAE, France, Argentina, Brazil and Germany.
Those that have already secured tickets are being advised to begin planning their trip and to apply for their Hayya – the Fan ID which is necessary to attend the tournament. Hayya allows entry for international fans in to Qatar, access to stadiums (alongside a valid match ticket) and free public transport on match days.
FIFA has also said that an announcement surrounding the launch date of a last-minute sales phase will be communicated from late September onwards.
The last-minute sales phase will run until the end of the tournament with tickets allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Over-the-counter sales will also start in Doha following the launch of the last-minute sales phase.
The FIFA World Cup in Qatar will run from November 20 until December 18, after the schedule changed to move the start date one day earlier.
