Ticketmaster Sport has struck a deal with the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournament as the South Africa event’s official ticketing partner.
The rugby sevens tournament will be one of South Africa’s largest sporting events of the year and will be hosted in Cape Town.
Sixteen men’s and 12 women’s international teams will descend on South Africa to take part in the group stages, before the top teams progress to a quarter-final knockout draw.
The World Series sees multiple Sevens tournaments take place around the world, with teams accumulating points before the winner is crowed.
Ticketmaster Sport has said that all tickets will be distributed 100% digitally via mobile, a first for the HSBC Cape Town Sevens.
By utilising digital ticketing and moving away from paper tickets, the solution will help to reduce the risk of fraud.
The digital tickets include a special encryption, meaning only legitimate ticket owners that have downloaded the Ticketmaster application on a mobile phone can gain entry to the event.
The last edition, held in 2019, saw records set with almost 120,000 fans attending games at Cape Town’s 55,000-capacity DHL Stadium.
Hong Kong will welcome the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in November, before the tournament heads to Dubai and eventually South Africa in December. The Series will then head to New Zealand, Australia, America, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, France and London across 2023.
