Suspected crowd crush at Brixton O2 Academy leaves four in critical condition

Four concert-goers are currently in critical condition, with eight people having been rushed to hospital after a reported crush during a concert at Brixton O2 Academy.

Metropolitan Police were called to the south London venue last night (Thursday), during a concert from afro-pop singer, Asake.

According to a report from the BBC, police officers were responding to an incident where a large number of people were trying to force their way into the venue.

Police also said that people were found with injuries that they believe have been caused by crushing, and that they have launched an investigation into the incident.

No arrests have been made at the time of writing.

Asake’s concert was cancelled 10 minutes after the singer appeared on stage to perform.

As per the Guardian, a spokesperson came onto the stage and said: “We have stopped the show, because they breached the door. You have got 3,000 people have broken the door outside and because of security, police have asked us to close the show. We apologise to you. This is nothing to do with us.”

There are also reports that cordons remain in place at Brixton O2 Academy.
