Comedian Peter Kay started his monthly residency at The O2 in London over the weekend, with his first of 29 shows at the venue.
Kay was presented with an award from the venue on stage during his first show, which took place on Friday, December 16.
The comedian, who announced his first tour in 12 years last month, witnessed extraordinary demand for tickets. The demand resulted in Kay adding a number of extra dates to the already lengthy tour.
Kay is the first performer to hold a monthly residency at The O2 and will be performing a show at the venue every month until April 2025. By the end of his run in 2025, Kay will have broken the record for the most shows played at The O2 by an artist – totalling 44 shows and surpassing the previous record held by Take That with 34 performances.
“What an absolute honour to play the world famous The O2 – London, let alone a monthly residency. A truly incredible response. Here’s to many joyful nights in the years to come,” said Kay.
The comedian last performed at The O2 as part of his 2010 tour, which still officially ranks with the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling comedy tour of all time.
