Funding to support arts touring in New South Wales

New South Wales residents will be able to enjoy an even wider range of experiences and entertainment, thanks to new funding through the NSW Government’s Regional Arts Touring programme.

The A$540,000 (£301,000/$364,000/€342,000) funding will support artists in creating and producing popular and engaging shows, making the arts more accessible for residents and providing an economic boost for local industries.

Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said: “The NSW Government is proud to invest in quality productions, exhibitions and programs touring the State, making it possible for around 40,000 people in regional areas to connect with a diverse range of exceptional arts and cultural experiences.

“By supporting the touring ambitions of these talented artists, we will enhance access to arts and culture for regional audiences while generating a boost to local economies through increased employment and entertainment opportunities.”

Rick Gonsalves, general manager of the Saltwater Freshwater (SWFW) Arts Alliance, said that the new funding will enable the SWFW Arts 2023 exhibition to tour through the Mid North Coast of Australia, in addition to Sydney.

Gonsalves said: “This funding enables SWFW Arts 2023 to reach a broader audience, making it an invaluable platform for Aboriginal artists from the Mid North Coast Region.”

The Regional Arts Touring programme will allow seven productions and exhibitions to tour regional New South Wales including: Music in the Regions classical music tour; SWFW Arts Alliance Aboriginal Corporation 2023 exhibition; the Australian Haydn Ensemble annual regional touring programme; Omega Ensemble 2023 NSW Regional Tour; Arts on Tour NSW 2023 Prima Facia Regional Tour; Soft Tread Enterprises tour of The Wharf Review: Looking for Albanese and Ms Diane Smith tour of Wild Thing, a new Australian play by Suzanne Hawley.
