Veteran music promoter Carlo Parodi has been elected president of Assomusica, the group that represents Italy’s live music scene.
Parodi is the permanent replacement for Vincenzo Spera, who was tragically killed in a vehicle collision earlier this year. Paolo De Biasi had been acting as interim president since March.
Parodi, a music promoter from Turin with over 30 years’ experience, is the creator of the Flowers Festival and founder of the live club Hiroshima Mon Amour.
The Assembly also elected the new board of directors, composed of Vincenzo Bellini, Paolo De Biasi, Fulvio De Rosa, Giuseppe Gomez Paloma, Giampaolo Grotta, Rita Zappador.
Parodi said: “It is with a sense of pride, as well as great responsibility and commitment, that I welcome this appointment and the trust that is being placed in me and in the new board of directors.
“The most complex issues will be addressed immediately, with great attention and care. On a personal level, I will commit to being everyone’s president, and those who know me know that this isn’t just a cliché. I will try to play my part, bringing my experience to the table, and taking on all the issues in the lively, structured industry of live music.
“We are now past the pandemic, that has proven how complex this segment of the cultural industry is and has shown that, in order to stand strong, Assomusica needs to be cohesive; and this, perhaps, is one of the most challenging legacies left by Vincenzo Spera.”
National Theatre Productions managing director Kash Bennett has been named as the next president of Society of London Theatre (SOLT).
Bennett will serve as vice president until next year, when she will take over from current president, Eleanor Lloyd. Read the full story here.
European Arenas Association (EAA) has welcomed Paris Entertainment Company (PEC) chief executive Nicolas Dupeux to its board of directors. He will be directly responsible for EAA members from the central European region.
Prior to taking up his position at PEC – the umbrella organisation operating Accor Arena, the Bataclan, and Adidas Arena – Dupeux was general manager of business solutions at Disneyland Paris, where he was in charge of business tourism and music and sports special events.
Dupeux said: “The demand for entertainment is booming in Europe and we have taken this into account in the development of the customer experiences at the Accor Arena. I’m really enthusiastic to discuss with my counterparts about their ecosystem and to share with them what we’ve learned about our transformation and the creation of a unique business model in France.”
ASM Global has appointed Jason Humphrey as general manager of Ithaca Downtown Conference Center in New York State. An industry professional with over 12 years of experience in event services and hospitality, Humphrey will be the first general manager of the new centre.
In his new role, Humphrey will oversee every aspect of the venue management and customer experience as well as work with the Downtown Ithaca Local Development Corporation, which owns the Ithaca Downtown Conference Center, to drive new economic activity in the destination.
Most recently, Humphrey served as an event services manager for the University of Pittsburgh.
In making the announcement, ASM Global’s Dan Hoffend, executive vice president of convention centers, said: “Jason’s knowledge of Ithaca and the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York, coupled with his experience in venues and hotels, will accelerate their success.”
Lost Motel, the Australian global festival and touring company, has appointed Rowan Johnson as senior touring operations manager.
Johnson’s touring experience extends all the way back to 2005 and includes major artists such as Neil Finn. Most recently, Rowan was the manager of event operations for Auckland Council.
“I am thrilled to be working with Sophie, Yasmin, their team and all of their artists. Throughout the Lost Motel family there’s a great mix of familiar faces and exciting new ones,” said Johnson. “I’m looking forward to solving all of the logistical challenges that come my way and bringing my experience to help their artists put on their best shows yet.”
