Ticket sales surge for jam-packed year at new Austin venue


Moody Center in Austin, Texas, which is set to open in April, has already surpassed $15m (£11m/€13m) in ticket sales for upcoming concerts and live events.

The 15,000-seat arena is currently under construction on The University of Texas campus and has already unveiled a packed line-up of acts for 2022.

Before the arena celebrates its Grand Opening Celebration, artist John Mayer will be taking the stage April 20 and 21and international star Justin Bieber will entertain fans on April 27. A grand opening celebration will then take place April 29 and 30 featuring country artist George Strait, with special guests Willie Nelson & Family and Randy Rogers Band.

Moody Center has been constructed as the result of a partnership between Oak View Group, an advisory, development and investment company for the sports and live entertainment industries, and live entertainment company Live Nation/C3 Presents. The University of Texas at Austin and the venue’s Minister of Culture Matthew McConaughey were also involved.

Casey Sparks, assistant general manager of Moody Center, said: “Austinites and the surrounding communities love live music and entertainment. Austin has a unique vibe and music is still at the centre of it.

“In all my years of working in this industry, I haven’t seen a calendar this full of artists wanting to come to a city. This will be an inaugural year of non-stop entertainment.”

American rock band Eagles and singer-songwriter Jack White are set to take the stage in May while Italian opera favourite Andrea Bocelli will perform in June. Las Vegas band The Killers will light up the stage in September and Canadian singer Shawn Mendes will continue a jam-packed year in October.
