Hong Kong Disneyland has closed its gates temporarily, citing the recent global surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
While hotels and restaurants will remain open with limited services, the parks have been closed since Friday, and will remain shut until January 20.
This most recent closure for Hong Kong Disneyland marks the fourth time it has had to do so since the beginning of the pandemic.
Previously, the park had to close briefly in November after a visitor tested preliminary positive for the virus, with staff and visitors at the park having to undergo testing. Disneyland Shanghai was also shut down for a small while in November after an attendee had tested positive following a visit to the park. Some 34,000 visitors were locked inside Disneyland Shanghai while testing took place.
In a statement on its website, Hong Kong Disneyland said: “As required by the government and health authorities and in line with prevention efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland Park will temporarily close from Jan 7 to 20, 2022.
“The resort hotels will remain open with adjusted level of services. Service at restaurants and recreation facilities in hotels will be adjusted according to the latest regulations.”
The statement added that unused tickets or designation in-park products that have an expiry date which falls within the park’s temporary closure period will be extended. Disneyland Hong Kong has said it will also extend the validity date for Magic Access Memberships, an annual pass with multiple levels for access to the park across the year.
