Stockholm-headquartered access solutions provider, ASSA ABLOY, has acquired Janam Technologies, a provider of handheld mobile computers and readers.
The acquisition was completed through identity solutions technology provider, HID Global, which is part of the ASSA ABLOY Group.
Janam’s acquisition will aim to enhance HID’s events access portfolio and improve the experience for fans globally. With many venues moving from physical tickets with manual inspection to digital tickets and RFID/NFC readers, the acquisition will help HID to increase its presence in the event access space.
US-based Janam offers products such as handheld devices, pedestal and kiosk products for venue access. The technology provider’s recent partnerships also allow Janam’s products to support the most advanced tap-and-go NFC features of Apple Wallet and Google Pay.
Janam’s solutions have been utilised by numerous events and venues, including the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar throughout November and December, which also saw HID act as the smart ticketing producer.
Björn Lidefelt, executive vice-president and head of HID, said: “We welcome Janam to the HID family and look forward to leveraging their mobile reader technology to improve the event experience for millions of spectators around the world.
“As digital tickets become more omnipresent, we will continue our commitment to offering best-in-class venue access products for event organisers and venues of all shapes and sizes.”
Marc Bielmann, senior vice-president and head of identification technologies at HID, added: “Joining forces with Janam is an important step in advancing HID’s identification technologies presence in the venue access vertical to be more comprehensive and convenient.
“This acquisition, along with our growing portfolio of RFID and NFC tickets, e-wallet capabilities, fixed and handheld readers, and related services, provides event organisers with a comprehensive venue access solution to make the fan experience more seamless and secure.”
HID will also support Janam’s ongoing business in rugged mobile computing solutions in other industries.
Harry Learner, chief executive and co-founder of Janam Technologies, said: “Janam’s mobile solutions are a logical extension of HID’s broad footprint in the rapidly evolving world of identifying and certifying people and assets, and we are thrilled to build on our tradition of innovation, speed and customer advocacy as part of one of the most highly respected companies in our industry.”
