Manchester United season ticket holders offered ultimatum

Fans of Manchester United have been told that if they fail to use their season ticket with regularity from next season, they will risk losing their seat.

According to a report from The Times, supporters must use their season ticket to attend at least 10 of 19 Premier League home games.

The holder does not need to attend games at Old Trafford themselves, but they can also transfer their ticket to a family member or friend. Fans can also donate their seat to the Manchester United foundation if they are unable to attend, according to the report.

United witnessed its lowest attendance of the season in a recent match against Middlesbrough, which saw the team knocked out of the FA Cup after losing on penalties.

Despite the club boasting the largest stadium in the Premier League, attendances have often failed to hit the heights of Old Trafford’s 74,140 capacity.

A club spokesman told The Times: “We want Old Trafford to be full and atmospheric for every game. With season ticket prices frozen for the 11th consecutive season, it’s not fair on fans who can’t get tickets when seats are left empty.

“To address this, we have introduced measures to encourage season-ticket holders to use their seats whenever possible and transfer them to friends and family when they cannot.”

According to Football London, Premier League rivals Arsenal may consider a similar route.
