MMA events enter the metaverse

B2Digital, a development league for mixed martial arts (MMA), has partnered with Metaskins Studios to distribute multiple live B2 Fighting Series (B2FS) events.

The events will take place at a venue in Decentraland, a 3D virtual world browser-based metaverse platform.

Metaskins will also help to promote the B2Digital and B2 Fighting Series brands within the metaverse. The first B2FS MMA event will take place later this month in the metaverse. B2Digital claimed that this will one of the first major combat sports brands to offer a live virtual event with attendance in the metaverse.

Greg Bell, chief executive of B2Digital, said: “This move will add a brand new channel of global content distribution, enabling us to reach millions of savvy new B2FS fans as the metaverse grows.

“The partnership represents a perfect channel for major brand expansion, multiple new revenue streams, and significant growth in non-gate ticket sales. And we have a number of core strategies to actualise that potential, but I have to keep quiet on those and all the other exciting details and wait to present the full picture.

“The big news is: the deal is done – we now have a top-notch venue for our live event footprint in the metaverse. And it’s going to open up a lot of new doors to new fans and new revenue streams.”

Metaskins was founded in Medellin, Colombia, less than a year ago and has already built a team of 15 artists and developers. The company has been working on Web3 content, including projects for metaverses like Decentraland, video game content, decentralised apps and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

David Cummings, co-founder of Metaskins, added: “We see tremendous potential ahead for this partnership, and we look forward to working with the B2Digital team on multiple live B2FS MMA events.

“The world ahead is going to be divided into two camps in many industries: the first movers into the metaverse, and everyone else. Live MMA is a perfect use case, and the B2 Fighting Series has already established itself as a juggernaut brand with a big and rapidly growing fanbase. We can’t wait for fight night.”
