SALTO enhances facial recognition tech through acquisition

Gantner Technologies owner SALTO Group is to enhance facial recognition technology within its ticketing and access control systems after the acquisition of Cognitec.

SALTO said the acquisition comes in the wake of changing expectations across the events industry, with digital credentials, digital identities and facial recognition becoming the new standard.

The group said the deal will help to strengthen its research, development and market reach for its product portfolio in the biometric market.

Cognitec’s portfolio includes solutions for face image database search and recorded video investigation and face image quality assessment. The company’s flagship FaceVACS algorithm has been validated by NIST (National Institute for Standards & Technology) performance tests.

Marc Handels, SALTO’s chief technology and innovation officer, said: “Working with Cognitec gives SALTO the opportunity to integrate emerging biometric and AI technologies into our Group products and platforms to create new solutions and services that benefit all of our clients.

“Cognitec’s technology is highly compatible and integrable across the SALTO product portfolio of access control, smart lockers, and booking and ticketing solutions. Incorporating applications like frictionless check-in and hands-free access into our applications will improve the SALTO customer experience whether it’s used in business, residential, or leisure and fitness.”

Alfredo Herrera, Cognitec’s CEO, said: “Becoming part of the SALTO Group allows us to extend our capabilities, market reach and business connections.

“Since our founding, Cognitec has been the only company worldwide that has worked exclusively on face recognition technologies. SALTO brings an equally focused and excellence-driven corporate history to this alliance. We are ready to reap the mutual benefits of joining our innovative drive and long-standing expertise.”

SALTO acquired Gantner, which has a number of clients in attractions, leisure and sport, in 2020.
