Shazam adds concert discovery feature through Bandsintown

Music recognition app Shazam has added a new discovery feature to its platform for users to find and explore concerts and increase artist exposure.

The new feature will use concert information from event recommendation platform, Bandsintown.

When ‘Shazaming’ a song to identify it through the app or on the Shazam website, users will be able to find concert information and tickets on sale for nearby upcoming shows from the artist or band.

Users can then launch the Shazam Artist page to further explore dates, times and locations of upcoming live shows. This feature will also allow fans to view additional information, share details of shows and add events to their calendar.

The new concert pages are available on the iOS and Android apps as well as Shazam’s website. Artists can add their tour information using Bandsintown For Artists to enable the information to appear on Shazam’s concert discovery pages.

Shazam was acquired by technology giant Apple for $400m (£303m/€346m) in 2018.

“Shazam has a long history of innovation in music discovery and connecting artists and fans,” said Oliver Shusser, Apple’s vice-president of Apple Music and Beats.

“With the re-emergence of live music, we’re excited to give Shazam users access to concerts and bring even more discoverability to artists.”

Fabrice Sergent, managing partner of Bandsintown, added: “As live music returns, we’re on a mission to help artists get more visibility for their shows.

“Pent-up demand from fans eager to go back to concerts is being met by an unprecedented level of live shows from artists on tour.”
