BookMyShow secures ticketing rights for upcoming IPL

BookMyShow has secured exclusive ticketing rights to the Indian Premier League this year, as the cricket competition fully returns to India for the first time since 2019.

The Mumbai-headquartered ticketing and entertainment company will also manage services at the host stadia, including gate entry and spectator management. Fans will be able to attend matches, but capacity is currently limited at 25%.

Matches will be held in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune in the Indian state of Maharashtra this year, to comply within COVID-19 protocols.

The IPL was completed in the United Arab Emirates in September and October last year, due to the ongoing pandemic and a number of players testing positive for COVID-19 during the original 2021 tournament dates. The season was suspended in 2020 due to initial lockdown measures in the country.

Out of the 70 matches to be played, 20 games will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, while 15 matches will take place at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and MCA International Stadium in Pune.

The 15th season of the IPL will see 10 teams compete for the title, with the price of tickets starting at INR800 (£8/$10/€10).

Anil Makhija (pictured), chief operating officer (COO) of live entertainment and venues, BookMyShow, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be back on board with Tata IPL 2022 as the exclusive ticketing, gate entry and spectator management partners for the 15th edition of the world’s most loved sporting extravaganza.

“After a two-year hiatus, the return of Tata IPL to Indian stadia is a joyous occasion for fans to enjoy the experience and thrill of this mega spectacle on-ground like they did before the pandemic.”

Makhija added: “With the season making way for 10 mighty teams this year, it is definitely going to be bigger and better than ever. BookMyShow is thrilled to welcome fans back to the stadium for a seamless cricketing experience and will follow strict COVID-appropriate protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of fans and the staff at the venues.

“We look forward to an exciting IPL season with nail-biting matches as fans return back to the stands rooting for their favourite teams and their favourite sport. Let the games begin.”
