StubHub reveals 25% increase in ticket sales ahead of US summer season


StubHub has revealed a 25% increase in ticket sales, compared to the 2019 US summer concert season.

The ticket resale platform has said that the increase in ticket sales is attributed to the number of events this summer, which is almost double that in the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic took hold.

“This may be the busiest concert season on record, with more than double the events on StubHub than we saw in 2019,” said Adam Budelli, spokesperson for StubHub. “This packed line-up of tours is already driving 25% more demand than the 2019 season, driven by the prominence of once-in-a-lifetime concerts.

“From Rage Against The Machine’s reunion to Elton John’s farewell, we’re seeing the impact of concert-goers who are excited that bucket-list bands are hitting the road again and eager to witness what may be a legacy act’s final tour.”

Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard is the number one highest-selling tour of the summer, and ranks almost three times higher in total sales than StubHub’s second most in-demand artist, Kenny Chesney.

The tour is the most in-demand concert in Los Angeles, Nashville and Chicago with the latter ranking as StubHub’s highest-selling show of the summer.

Chesney is also the highest-selling country act, boasting nearly 40% more sales than his previous tour in the summer of 2018.

Sir Paul McCartney has the highest average price of tickets sold at $349 (£286/€336) and is tied with Billy Joel for the fewest number of concerts, showcasing how in demand tickets are.

Justin Bieber is the most in-demand pop star, while Lady Gaga has the most ticket sales for any female artist. Bieber tickets also have an average price of $327.
