Apple Music to live-stream concerts starting with Harry Styles

Apple will begin live-streaming concerts for Apple Music subscribers from tomorrow (Friday).

A concert from artist Harry Styles will be the first for Apple Music Live, as he celebrates his new album ‘Harry’s House’ with a ‘One Night only in New York’ event at UBS Arena at Belmont Park. Tickets for this particular show were put on sale for just $25 (£20/€24) including taxes and fees.

The concert will stream live on Apple Music at 9pm EST, which would be the early hours of the morning in the UK. For those that will be asleep, the concert will be streamed again on May 22 and on May 26 with times to cater for all time zones.

Harry Styles’ concert will be available in 167 countries at no extra cost to Apple Music subscribers.

Apple Music will also offer extra content to promote the artist and the concert, including in-depth interviews with the artist or band. In the case of Harry Styles, an hour-long interview with New Zealand radio DJ Zane Lowe was released a couple of days ago.

An Apple spokesperson told news outlet TechCrunch: “No matter how much time and effort an artist may spend crafting music in the studio, it’s on the stage where they really get to show their work.

“Apple Music Live is a new recurring series designed to do just that: give the biggest stars in music the biggest possible platform to flaunt how they connect with audiences and how their songs translate to live performance.”

It is not the first time the technology giant has dabbled with live-streamed music performances, having previously organised the Apple Music Festival (also known as the iTunes Festival). This offered free tickets to Apple Music, iTunes and DICE subscribers in the UK between 2007 and 2016, with a US version taking place in 2014.
