UAE fans to receive ticket allocation for Australia play-off match

The United Arab Emirates Football Association has acquired 5,000 tickets for UAE supporters to attend its Asian World Cup play-off match against Australia in Qatar next month.

It was announced on Thursday last week that the UAE FA had organised the ticket allocation with the Asian Football Confederation, ahead of the game against Australia on June 7 at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium (pictured) in Al Rayyan.

It had been announced earlier this month that the FIFA World Cup play-offs would take place at the 50,000-capacity Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. The ground is also one of the host venues for the World Cup.

Tickets will be distributed at the front gates of the stadium on the night, with the UAE FA to release more details on how fans can apply to attend.

The winner of the match will take on Peru in an intercontinental play-off for a place at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

According to the Australian Associated Press, UAE FA general secretary Mohammed Hazzam Al Dhaheri said: “The public are one of the most prominent partners in UAE football … (their) role will be vital in encouraging and motivating the players during the Australia match.

“Our national team performs better in the presence of their fans, who are with them on all occasions to support them.”

The UAE is trying to secure a place at the World Cup in November and December for the first time since making its debut in Italy in 1990.
