National Basketball Association (NBA) fans will be able to get their hands on tickets for the Abu Dhabi Games set for later this year, as they go on general sale from tomorrow (Thursday).
The NBA and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) announced yesterday (Tuesday) that the tickets will go on sale at 1pm GST on Thursday June 30.
The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022 will feature the Atlanta Hawks and the 2021 NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks. The teams will play two pre-season games at Etihad Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi on October 6 and 8.
The venue was announced as the host in May, and it will be the first time the league has held games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Arabian Gulf.
Special ticket packages offering premium access, VIP experiences, hospitality and local hotel accommodation will also be available for purchase from tomorrow.
The league also named four-time NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal as the official NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022 ambassador. O’Neal will attend the games, participate in youth development programmes and interact with local fans.
The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022 are part of a new multi-year partnership between the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi, which was introduced earlier this year. It saw the launch of the first Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, a youth basketball league for 450 boys and girls aged 11-14 from local schools.
DCT Abu Dhabi will also serve as an official tourism destination partner of the NBA in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and China, under the ‘Visit Abu Dhabi’ initiative.
