Record-breaking ticket sales expected for Rugby League World Cup 2021

Rugby League World Cup 2021 organisers are expecting record-breaking ticket sales for the upcoming tournament.

Over a quarter of a million tickets have already been sold and the women’s opener is set to have a record-breaking crowd in attendance.

The tournament, which was postponed from last year, will feature men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions running simultaneously.

England’s opening men’s game against Samoa in Newcastle is one of a number of matches close to selling out, while men’s group games at Sheffield, Bolton and Newcastle are also set to sell out. All eight wheelchair games at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport arena have already sold out.

Mick Hogan, the tournament’s director of revenue, told the BBC: “We are delighted to hit such a significant milestone for ticket sales at this stage. We are incredibly excited that this year’s World Cup is going to be the best attended in the long history of our sport.”

The men’s and women’s double-header final at Old Trafford on November 19 is also set to sell out, which would make it the highest grossing rugby league match held in the northern hemisphere.

Hogan added: “What has been particularly encouraging to see is the appetite for tickets across all three tournaments, with our opening fixtures for the men’s, women’s and wheelchair competitions all selling well.

“At RLWC21, we want to inspire the next generation of rugby league players and fans alike, which is why we have created a ticket pricing strategy that will make the tournament one of the most affordable and family friendly international sports events in history.”
