Darwin Festival sells more than 35,000 tickets

The recent Darwin Festival saw more than 35,000 tickets sold across the event, with well over 62,000 people attending.

Local ticket holders made up three quarters of the sales while visitors from all around Australia made up 23%. Some 65% of events were completely sold out according to news outlet Cim Business Events.

The event ran from August 4-21 and included free and ticketed performances. There were over 150 shows and 80 events spread across 20 venues, showcasing more than 400 artists from Northern Territory and Australia as well as overseas.

Artistic director of Darwin Festival, who is also leaving his role after six years, Felix Preval told Cim: “After six incredible years as artistic director of Darwin Festival, it’s been wonderful to go out with a real bang.

“To see free community events Buŋgul and balarr inyiny, play to capacity crowds, to have interstate and international artists and visitors return, and for the program to be so well received has been deeply gratifying.

“I love this city. I love this Festival. It’s been a privilege to have worked closely with artists from across the Northern Territory, to have commissioned local and national productions for Darwin’s delight, and to have brought so much incredible talent to experience this place.”
