K-pop concert halted after fans faint in crowd

A concert held by K-pop boyband NCT 127 in Jakarta, Indonesia was halted after almost 30 fans fainted in a pushing crowd.

The concert was already taking place with heightened security after the police investigated a bomb threat before the show, which was taking place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE).

A bomb squad and K9 unit were deployed to the venue but they detected no threat of explosive devices, meaning the concert was able to go ahead.

However, the concert was halted after fans in the standing section began to porch towards the stage and some started to suffer. According to a report from CNN Indonesia, 30 people fainted.

Concert organiser Dyandra Global Edutainment said in a statement: “Concert attendances on the standing section appeared to go unorganised, which resulted in chaos and eventually led to the halt of the show for the sake of their safety.

“We’re very grateful that no one was injured. However, as we put the safety and security of the audience as our top priority, the halt of the show became inevitable. We’re deeply sorry for everyone who came to our Day 1 show for not being able to enjoy the concert until the end.”

The second night of the two dates at the venue was able to go ahead, though Dyandra said that it added further paramedics and security personnel.

Local authorities and concert organisers are already undertaking extra security and safety measures, after a recent local music festival Berdendang Bergoyang was shut down early due to overcrowding.
