Mexico President asks Bad Bunny to perform free concert following Ticketmaster mix up

Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has called for Bad Bunny to give a free concert, after fans were unable to enter a recently sold-out show due to a mix up from Ticketmaster.

President López Obrador said that the rapper should play a show in the central Zócalo plaza in the capital Mexico City, and that the Mexican Government could pay for some of the production costs for the concert.

As reported by the Guardian, López Obrador said: “I ask Bad Bunny, I know he is overworked and tired because he works a lot, but I ask him to consider the possibility of coming to Mexico, to the Zócalo. Hopefully he comes.”

Fans were unable to enter Estadio Azteca for Bad Bunny’s concert last Friday, after Ticketmaster cancelled tickets, citing a large number of fake purchases.

The President added: “It made us very emotional to see sad young people who couldn’t enter because their tickets were cloned, because they were cheated, some crying. They saved for a long time to be able to buy their tickets.”

PROFECO, Mexico’s consumer watchdog agency, said that Ticketmaster would have to refund the full cost of tickets purchased via official channels, on top of a 20% compensation fee.

Mexico’s Federal Consumer Attorney Ricardo Sheffield told local press that Ticketmaster Mexico could face a fine worth a total of up to 10% of the ticketing platform’s earnings in 2021.
