WWE’s WrestleMania 39 becomes most successful and highest-grossing event

WWE has revealed that WrestleMania 39 became the most successful and highest-grossing event in the company’s history.

The two-night event at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last weekend was sold-out and set new records for viewership, gate, sponsorship, merchandise and social media. WrestleMania 39 also became the most social event of all-time, with over 500 million views and 11 million hours of video consumed over the two days.

Yesterday (Monday) it was announced that sports and entertainment group Endeavor had entered into a definitive agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment to form a new publicly listed company, consisting of the WWE and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brands.

The second night of WrestleMania 39 also surpassed the existing global viewership record by 33%, just one day after the first night surpassed the existing global viewership record by 28%.

WrestleMania 39 generated a gate of more than $21.6m (£18m/€20m), which broke the previous record by 27%. More than 161,892 people attended SoFi Stadium across the two nights.

Additionally, WrestleMania 39 broke all-time sponsorship and merchandise records – sponsorship revenue eclipsed $20m and merchandise sales were up 20% on the record set last year.
