Arsenal Women sells over 48,000 tickets for Emirates Stadium Champions League tie

Arsenal Women has sold over 48,000 tickets for the return leg of its UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final against VFL Wolfsburg Women.

The match is set to be held at London’s Emirates Stadium on May 1.

VFL Wolfsburg drew 2-2 with Arsenal in the first leg in Germany on Sunday night.

The current attendance record for an Arsenal Women’s fixture at Emirates Stadium is 47,367, which was set during the North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

The record for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, and for a women’s football game, stands at 91,553, which was set by FC Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou in March last year.

The attendance figure beat that of the previous women’s football record of 90,185, which was set in 1999 for the FIFA Women’s World Cup final between the US and China. The previous Women’s Champions League record was 50,212 for a game between Lyon and Frankfurt in Munich in 2012.
