The Leadmill calls on fans to help save the venue

Iconic Sheffield venue the Leadmill has called on fans for help, after the landlord that owns the premises advanced plans to evict its management.

In April last year, the future of the venue came under threat after the owners of the building said the leaseholder would be evicted. The venue is owned by Electric Group, which also owns Electric Brixton in London, SWX in Bristol and Newcastle’s NX.

The Leadmill is now calling for further help from fans, and said in a statement: “Our landlords are moving forward with their plans to evict the Leadmill by applying for a premises licence.

“If granted, this would allow them to operate their own business from this location. This could result in The Leadmill ceasing to exist after 43 years. We are asking for your help in objecting to their licence application before Wednesday May 24.”

Electric Group’s head of music Mike Weller said last year that The Leadmill was not going to close down once the lease ran out.

He said at the time: “There was never any question of us closing The Leadmill, despite all the social media chat.”
