Over 30,000 watch Manchester United Women at Old Trafford

Over 30,000 fans turned up to see Manchester United Women take on Aston Villa Women at Old Trafford on Saturday, setting a record attendance for the club.

More than 36,000 tickets were sold for Manchester United Women’s match prior to Saturday, hinting at a record that would beat the 20,241 who attended the Women’s Super League (WSL) game at Old Trafford in March.

It is the third time the women’s side has played at Old Trafford in the WSL, with the first match against West Ham Women taking place behind closed doors during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

Tickets were priced at £6 ($7/€7) for adults and £3 for fans aged under 16 and over 65. Hospitality packages were also available for the game, with prices starting from just £20.

Manchester United went on to win the game 5-0 in front of the bumper crowd.

The record attendance for a WSL match was set at Emirates Stadium, where 47,367 watched Arsenal beat North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in September.

In July, the opening UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 match at Old Trafford set a new tournament record with 68,871 attending.

This was then broken by a crowd of 87,192, which witnessed England defeat Germany at Wembley to become champions.

The tournament, which was held across England, also broke the cumulative attendance record with 15 matches to go.
