South African historical attraction Robben Island Museum is migrating its official ticketing platform from online ticket marketplace Webtickets to the newly implemented Plankton solution.
The island is where anti-apartheid fighter, political leader and the first president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, was imprisoned for 18 of his 27 serving years.
South Africa’s Department of Arts and Culture opened the museum in 1997 and attracts more than 200,000 tourists annually.
Tours around the island allow visitors to learn about prominent South African figures Mandela, political dissident Robert Sobukwe and anti-apartheid activist Walter Sisulu.
The museum told IOL: “Visitors can still secure their tickets via Webtickets for tours until January 15, 2022. But after the 15th, tickets will be available on the Plankton Solutions platform.
“The changes will not have an impact on tickets already bought on Webtickets, and these tickets will continue to be accepted upon boarding.”
Robben Island Museum’s new ticketing platform will also incorporate the new Walking Tour, which was not included in the current bus tour.
The museum will maintain 2021 ticket prices despite suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic – some 65% of their visitors are international tourists.
