Singapore venues can now return to 50% capacity

Sports events and concerts in Singapore can welcome bigger crowds from this weekend after a relaxation of COVID restrictions across the city-state.

The number of permitted spectators at venues with capacities greater than 1,000 will be increased to 50% capacity starting today (Friday, 18 March) under guidelines announced by bodies such as Sport Singapore (SportSG) and National Arts Council Singapore earlier this week. Those with capacities of under 1,000 can fill their venues to 100% capacity. Spectators in all venues must be masked and COVID status certification checks must be conducted for all live performances, irrespective of event size.

The Singapore Premier League (SPL) confirmed its clubs can now host crowds at 50% capacity. The limits for each of the five SPL match venues for this season range from 3,000 for Jalan Besar Stadium to 1,500 each for Toa Payoh Stadium, Hougang Stadium and Jurong East Stadium.

While social distancing will no longer be required at SPL matches, mask-wearing will continue to be mandatory at all times and spectators are required to present proof they are fully vaccinated in order to gain entry. Children aged 12 years old and below, regardless of their vaccination status, will be required to be accompanied with a fully vaccinated adult in order to gain entry.

The SPL said each of the eight SPL clubs will undertake all ticketing operations for their respective home matches and fans are advised to check in with the respective home clubs for specific ticketing details.

The changes in sport and the arts are in line with in line with the government directive of simplification of safe management measures that went into effect on March 15. Audience members are encouraged to make online ticket purchases and use e-payment methods.
