Liverpool FC limits ticket sharing through new scheme

Premier League football club Liverpool has launched a new scheme that limits fans’ ability to share tickets ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Ticket Forwarding replaces the now defunct Ticket Distribution scheme, which last season allowed supporters to distribute their home Premier League and cup match tickets to other supporters should they be unable to attend matches themselves.

The new scheme only permits supporters to transfer their match tickets to those on their registered Friends and Family list. Fans can add an unlimited number of contacts to this list, but they must all be entered by early August.

Supporters can only forward tickets a maximum of three times per game before they are locked and cannot be forwarded again.

In a statement, a Liverpool spokesperson said: “[Ticket Forwarding] will allow season ticket holders and official members to use official club channels to share their match tickets in a secure way, while also making Anfield more accessible and safer for fans by knowing who is in the stadium.”

Supporters with tickets in accessible areas will only be able to forward their tickets to other disabled supporters, and supporters with tickets in non-accessible areas will not be able to forward their tickets to supporters who require accessible seating.

Those who have purchased tickets in the local members sale, late availability sale or general £9 sale will not be able to transfer their ticket. Liverpool will also continue to offer its ticket exchange scheme, through which fans receive 100% of the value of their ticket should it sell.

In May, Liverpool called on social media companies to close more than 50 accounts and groups it claimed were involved in selling, or offering to sell, tickets to their UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid.
