Tech Stack: Immersive experiences, frictionless entry and more…

Our weekly tech round-up from the world of ticketing and associated industries…

Digital tickets for National Parks

Visitors to the British Virgin Islands will now be able to purchase National Park entry tickets and Marine Conservation permits online. Travellers can choose which pass to purchase for which park through a new ‘Park Entry’ page on the National Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands (NPTVI) website. Patrons can purchase a singular pass or multiple tickets for groups.

Immersive digital experiences

Wales Millennium Centre is now home to an extended reality (XR) arts space. Bocs (which is Welsh for ‘box’) will present 360 degree films and projections as well as XR experiences that will included augmented reality (AR), mixed reality and virtual reality (VR). Bocs will open later this month, with VR experiences to accompany productions at the Wales Millennium Centre. There will also be experiences such as the LGBTQ+ VR Museum, which is set to be the world’s first VR museum dedicated to preserving LGBTQ+ history.

Introducing digital season tickets

Championship club Blackpool is set to roll out digital season tickets, starting with the South Stand this weekend. Entry to accommodate digital ticketing will be phased in across the entirety of home stadium, Bloomfield Road, over the coming months. Blackpool worked with fan engagement company and access control partner Fortress, and ticketing partner Ticketmaster, to deliver the new method of entry.

Frictionless entry

Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which is home to the National Football League (NFL)’s Atlanta Falcons and Major League Soccer (MLS)’s Atlanta United, is trialling frictionless entry technology for supporters. The technology will enable fans to use their face as a ticket, removing the need to scan a physical ticket or their mobiles phone. The pilot is currently only used by club-level season ticket holders and their guests, but the stadium is considering opening it up to all season ticket holders.
