The NFL has announced its second non-fungible token (NFT) drop for select games ahead of Thanksgiving on Thursday.
From Thanksgiving through to the end of the 2021 NFL season, fans will receive a limited edition keepsake in the form an NFT, through official ticketing channels Ticketmaster, StubHub and SeatGeek. The NFTs have been produced in collaboration with Ticketmaster.
The Thanksgiving NFT drop is available for the Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions game on November 25. This comes after the first NFT drop was done quietly on November 7 for an Arizona Cardinals vs San Francisco 49ers game.
Bobby Gallo, senior vice president of club business development at the NFL, said: “Creating more one-to-one experiences through innovation and technology is a high priority across the league and clubs.
“Leveraging the emerging world of NFTs is a new and exciting way for us to create additional value and to further engage with fans who attend select games by providing a virtual commemorative ticket. There is no better time than the upcoming holiday season to kick off this fun and engaging fan experience, starting with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions Thanksgiving Day matchup.”
In addition to the NFTs accompanying the select games over the festive season, the marketplace will also offer a limited number of digital collectible NFTs from all 32 NFL clubs. Fans will then have the opportunity to trade or sell their NFTs.
Brendan Lynch, executive vice president of enterprise and revenue at Ticketmaster, added: “These special NFTs give fans a keepsake to remember the game they attended and share the experience with their friends online.
“As we continue to invest and innovate in this space, we’re proud to partner with the NFL to help fans unlock a whole new way to extend their game day experience.”
