Tickets to go on sale for Japanese anime-inspired theme park

Tickets for a Japanese theme park that is based on the films of anime studio Studio Ghibli are set to go on sale next month.

The theme park will be based on Studio Ghibli work, including the Oscar-winning ‘Spirited Away’.

Tickets will go on sale on August 10 and will be sold using a lottery system through online ticket service, Boo-Woo Ticket. The second phase of ticket sales will start on September 10 and will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. From September, tickets will also be sold across Japan via Loppi terminals at Lawson and Mini Stop stores.

Ghibli Park will open on November 1 and tickets will not be sold to those outside of Japan. The theme park is based in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture and will consist of five areas; the first three will be opening in November.

One section will be named Ghibli no Daisoko (Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse) which will resemble a garden in ruins, like the one in the 1986 film ‘Castle in the Sky’. The second section will be named Seishun no Oka (Hill of Youth) and will incorporate a tower with designs similar to the one in 2004’s ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’.

The third section of the theme park will be called Dondoko More (Dondoko Forest) and will feature a cafe area and a life-sized model of the house from the 1988 film ‘My Neighbour Toroto’.

The remaining attractions, Mononoke Village and the Valley of Witches, are expected to open in April next year.
