Formula 1 fans raced to snap up tickets to the returning Singapore Grand Prix (pictured), with three-day grandstand tickets and hospitality packages selling out within six hours.
Tickets went on sale yesterday (Wednesday) for the motorsport race, which is famously held at night.
Shamini Suppiah, director of hospitality and sponsorship sales for race promoter Singapore GP, said: “We have received strong interest from existing and new clients in our hospitality packages ever since the contract renewal for the Formula 1 night race was announced.”
In January, Singapore GP signed a multi-year deal to keep F1 in the city-state until 2028. This year’s race will take place September 30-October 2.
The race has been cancelled for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with an appetite for the sport to return demonstrated by demand for tickets. In 2019, some 268,000 spectators attended the racing weekend, which was the highest total since the inaugural event in 2008.
While the three-day grandstand and combination tickets have sold out, single-day grandstand and walkabout tickets are yet to be released, meaning F1 fans can still get a bite of the action.
Adam Firth, director of Singapore GP, said: “After a two-year absence from the streets of Marina Bay, we are delighted by the incredible response to our first race in our new seven-year term.
“With the enormous demand, we are very appreciative of the patience and support shown by our fans and are 100% committed to delivering another spectacular edition of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix this September 30 to October 2.”
