Newly-promoted English Championship club Sunderland AFC has sold almost 30,000 season tickets following last season’s success.
The club revealed that some 28,000 Sunderland fans had secured their regular perch at the Stadium of Light so far, ahead of the 2022-23 season.
According to Transfermarkt, Championship club Sheffield United held the highest home attendance average during the 2021-22 season with 27,611 fans. Nottingham Forest was second, with its City Ground welcoming an average of 27, 094 fans.
Sunderland looks set to beat these records, especially with Nottingham Forest having recently been promoted to the Premier League after 23 years in the second tier of English football.
Season cards went on sale following Sunderland’s promotion from League One, with 22,000 already secured before going on general sale at the end of May.
Card holders also receive additional benefits including priority access to away and showpiece fixtures, complimentary access to SAFC Ladies and Under-23 home fixtures, and priority access to tickets for concerts at the Stadium of Light.
