Ticketmaster Mexico could face a fine worth millions of dollars after more than 1,000 fans were prohibited from entry to a recent Bad Bunny concert, according to reports.
NBC News has reported that Mexico’s Federal Consumer Attorney (PROFECO) told local press that fines given to Ticketmaster Mexico could total up to 10% of the ticketing platform’s earnings in 2021.
Last weekend, fans were denied entry to a Bad Bunny concert held at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, after being told their tickets were not valid. Many fans had legitimate tickets, but were turned away after a mix up surrounding fake tickets. Fans were told that their tickets had been duplicated or cloned and subsequently cancelled.
In a statement, Ticketmaster said: “Ticketmaster apologises to fans and announces refunds to legitimate ticket-holders who were unable to access today’s [Friday] Bad Bunny concert.”
The ticketing platform also said that it would be cooperating with PROFECO around the reimbursement of fans that were turned away.
Sheffield said that his office had processed at least 1,600 refund requests from fans who bought legitimate tickets, but were unable to enter the 87,500-capacity stadium. Sheffield’s office also said these fans were entitled to a full refund from Ticketmaster Mexico and compensation of no less than 20% of the price paid.
