Live entertainment giant Live Nation has entered into regional Australia through a new deal with Anita’s Theatre, a small historic venue in Thirroul.
The city is a northern seaside suburb in Wollongong, which is roughly 60km south of Sydney. It is the first time Live Nation has entered the regional Australian market.
Live Nation already has an existing Australian portfolio in larger cities such as The Palais Theatre in Melbourne, the Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane and Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide, which was unveiled earlier this year.
Roger Field, president of Live Nation Asia Pacific, told The Music Network: “Keeping venues, such as Anita’s Theatre, open is imperative to the ongoing growth of local Australian artists.
“As advocates for developing local Australian talent, we are aware of the cultural significance Anita’s Theatre holds within the Illawarra region, and we are looking forward to showcasing an array of amazing live entertainment and talent for local fans to enjoy.”
Anita’s Theatre originally opened its doors in 1925 as the ‘King’s Theatre’ before operating as a movie cinema, a roller-skating rink and now as a space for music and live entertainment. The site was re-opened in 2007 as Anita’s Theatre, named after the late wife of then-owner John Comelli.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
